All video posts and icon posts will always be public. Use the [vid post] tag to find vids plugged in this journal and use my Memories to find vids plugged elsewhere and all icon posts.

Updates on judging at the Friendly Neighborhood Video Awards are sometimes public, sometimes locked. The public updates can be found under the [fnva] tag.

If you would like to be added to the friends filters that get access to locked vidding and/or fandom-related posts, let me know here. Access to all other filters are at my discretion. Once I get to know you a bit you might be added to a few more. =)

FNVA Tournament - Sweet Sixteen & Recs
Top 32 results are posted at the FNVAs. Congratulations to our Sweet Sixteen and thank you to everyone who participated. You guys definitely didn't make things easy. The 4 vs. 5 matches were particularly brutal.

Recs for two non-winning vids )

Sweet Sixteen submissions close at 11:59 PM EST on July 8th. Good luck!

FNVA Tournament - Top 32
Brackets and Top 32 matches are posted at the FNVA tournament.

From the looks of the brackets, this should be an interesting tourney. I see some very bloody matches in our future. *eg*

For those who are curious, seeding is primarily based on past performance at the FNVAs, and in the case of high seeds, the number of potential Best Video contenders they have in their catalogs. For newbies, I did my best to hazard a guess as to where they'd stack up against the veterans based on the two vids they submitted for initial consideration.

Bracket placement, on the other hand, is random. So don't bitch at me if you don't like your bracket. :P

I know some of you have already seen this, but...
[info]counteragent's little sister-in-law, Jenny, is very sick. It would be so wonderful if you could take a quick moment (just like 3 minutes) to check out her family's blog (http://jenjensfamily.blogspot.com/) and see if you think you might know anyone like Jenny. They are looking for "comparables" (people who have similar symptoms) that may have had success with treatments Jenny's docs haven't yet tried.

They would also really appreciate it if you post about this on your blog and thus help them spread the word.

FNVA R12 Winners & Tournament
Round Twelve awards are up at the FNVAs! Congrats to the winners.

Couple big changes. [info]bradcpu no longer has time to be a judge, so I'm back to flying solo. I'm also moving to a seasonal format, meaning there will be four rounds per year: three regular rounds in the spring, fall, and winter, and a tournament round over the summer. I know that's not much but it's all I have time for.

Since it's summer we're heading straight into the tournament! This was a lot of fun last year so I hope to see a bunch of you sign up. For an explanation of how it works, please see the guidelines. All vids are eligible, including those entered in last year's tournament. Sign-ups will close at the end of June and the tournament itself will take place over July and possible August.

Also, would anyone be able to serve as an award maker during the tournament? I had a mix of people making awards last time and it helped out a lot.

Sweet Charity

Quick note to say I'm auctioning my vidding services off for Sweet Charity again. Depending on how busy work keeps me, this may or may not be the last time I do this.

Fandoms: Any superhero TV show or movie that is DVD-rentable, Battlestar Galactica, Heroes, Final Fantasy, Smallville, Ugly Betty, Friday Night Lights (season one), Harry Potter, Gossip Girl, Psych

Also willing to vid movies (besides horror) or anime. If you want an AMV, let me know which series you have in mind ahead of time so I can make sure it's doable.

I'm open to almost anything in terms of genre, music, and bidder input. More details at the Sweet Charity site.

FNVA Best of the Best
Best of the Best awards are posted at the FNVAs! Congratulations to the honorees. Winning one of these was no mean feat. Download links are included on the winners page, for those who are interested.

We've also posted an awards show video that features snippets of the winning vids. I have to send out a huge thank you to Brad for taking that on. I'd had the idea for a long time and really wanted to include it, but wouldn't have had time to put it together myself. I did provide the narration, albeit with a sore throat, so apologies for the relative hoarseness. In any case, Brad did a kickass job, so take a look. :)

Round Eleven is open, so start submitting!

Orchard of Mines commentary
As requested by [info]bradcpu:

Embedded audio commentary for 'Orchard of Mines' )

To be honest I don't think this vid lent itself well to the commentary format. I can't seem to explain what goes into my action editing without gesturing wildly with my hands and making whooshing noises, which obviously couldn't be included here. But Brad asked for this, so I had to oblige.

Next commentary will be "Damaged," since it won the poll. In contrast I think that vid is especially suited to this type of thing, so that should be better.

I lack an interesting accent. Woe.

Vidding commentary meme
Snagged from [info]whereistheluv and [info]obsessive24

So this looks like a fun break from interview prep.

If you want commentary on aspects of any vid I've made, post a comment. Let me know if there are particular questions you'd like me to answer, choices you'd like me to talk about, or elements of the vid you'd like me to expound on (favorite moments, whatever).

I can't imagine there's much in the way of mystery regarding my vids, but if you have questions about anything at all, feel free to ask.

Reposted because when I went to hit "Edit Entry" I hit "Delete Entry" instead. Oops.

FNVA Round Ten winners
Round Ten awards are posted at the FNVAs! This was the toughest round yet. Many, many entrants submitted their best work, from the Best Video winners right down to people that just missed the cut for an award. I think each and every winner is really worth checking out.

Brad and I are going to start judging the Best of the Best round soon, and we're going to be go about it in a way that's a bit different from the norm. Short summary: out of the 540 videos submitted in the past ten rounds, we're going to pick five 'Best Video' types, five 'Best Editing' types, and two Judge's Choice. Suffice to say, winning a BOTB award will be no joke. I wanted to make sure we were only honoring vids that are truly extraordinary, which is why I limited the categories to the two most competitive.

The start of Round Eleven will be signaled by a new layout. Given that I'm swamped with school, research, and job interviews, I unfortunately can't offer up any kind of timeline for when all this will happen beyond "whenever I can swing it." :P

FNVA Round Ten Open
Round Ten is open at the FNVAs. You know the deal - we'll take pretty much anything. Best of the Best Round to follow after this, so if you've got a vid you want considered be sure to enter this round.

Incidentally, this is the first time I've had an icon to match the layout. Fun! :D

FNVA Tournament - Final Results
Results and awards are posted. I know I said I would outsource all award making, but I couldn't find someone to do the final two so I gave them my best shot. Hope you like them! Thanks to [info]frivolity65 for making the awards for [info]ringwench and [info]whereistheluv.

Also, a big thanks to my co-judges, [info]bradcpu and [info]obsessive24, especially since the onus of judging the final match was left with them after my laptop suffered its ill-timed mishap.

If I hadn't lost my laptop at the last minute, the whole thing would've wrapped up in a month. That seems like a good timetable to me, so in light of that, you can consider tournament #2 officially green-lit. I'm not 100% sure of the date. Earliest possibility is March, and of course it will happen no later than August. May/June is looking to be the most likely candidate so far.

FNVA Tourney - Sweet Sixteen results, recs
Results for the Sweet Sixteen matches are up. Congratulations to the Elite Eight! Third round submissions are due by noon EST on August 19th.

As a sidenote, I'll rec three 'non-winning' vids from this round:

Dark by Castor (Batman Begins)
Follow You Home by jonsbigandscary (Sin City)
Changes by brighette (Supernatural)

Gave the higher seeds they were matched up against a run for their money and were definitely impressive in their own right.

FNVA Tournament - Round one
Round one of the tournament has officially begun! Check out the brackets and current matches.

To participants - please don't be disappointed if you weren't seeded as highly as you'd hoped. Oftentimes there were more vidders who I wanted to place in a particular tier than there were slots available.

Brackets are named for important Spidey-related locales in both classic and recent continuity. Placement into any particular bracket was random, with one exception - and he should know who he is. ;)

Please get submissions in on time if you are participating. Forfeits are no fun, and I definitely want this to be fun for participants and onlookers alike. :D

FNVA Round Nine Winners and Tournament
Round Nine winners are posted at the FNVAs. Congrats to the winners!

I wanted to do something unique in honor of the site's upcoming anniversary. So, we will be holding a seeded tournament in August. Basically functions like NCAA March Madness, or any other seeded athletic tournament, except replace the players and/or teams with individual vidders.

More information can be found at the site (or more specifically, here). Be sure to read the revised judging section as well to see how vids will be evaluated for the tournament. [info]bradcpu and I will be joined by [info]obsessive24, who has graciously agreed to serve as a tie-breaker in the event of a disagreement.

Sign-ups take place from now until July 29th. My goal here is just to do something different and fun. The only way this will work if is we gets lots and lots of participation, so please feel free to promote the tournament to anyone you think might be interested. And of course, it couldn't hurt to sign up yourself. ;)

I will be out of the country from July 4 through July 29th. While I should have decent enough internet access to check my email every few days, I obviously won't be in as frequent contact as I am now. Feel free to contact me through LJ, email, or the FNVA tagboard, but please be patient in waiting for a response.
